Committees

WIFV has a strong commitment to its volunteers and encourages members to get involved at the committee level. It is one of the best ways to learn more about WIFV and get to know other members.

With just one full-time staff member, WIFV recognizes the contributions of our volunteers and relies on them to help provide the services and programs we offer.

WIFV has seven formal committees and several subcommittees. Committees are open and every member is welcome to join.

Membership Committee
The Membership Committee's primary responsibilities are recruiting, retaining and communicating with members, representing the organization and being the face of WIFV to the industry. This committee produces the annual WIFV membership directory, provides greeters at all WIFV events, polls members, and assists the executive director with membership recruiting at events. The Membership Committee also works on securing member benefits, such as health insurance, publication discounts and industry discounts.

Programming Committee
The Programming Committee is in charge of producing and managing nearly 30 programs and special events each year. These programs are necessary to promote the advancement and professional development of women in the film and video industry. These events include workshops, panel discussions, seminars, job fair and screenings. The committee is also in charge of our community outreach programs, such as Kids World Film Fest and Image Makers.

Development Committee
The Development Committee is responsible for ensuring WIFV's financial viability as an organization through fundraising and maintaining ongoing relationships with our corporate sponsors. This Committee is responsible for finding new sponsors and nurturing new strategic partnerships.  The Development Committee also helps raise funds for our special events, such as the Women of Vision Awards Gala.

Communications Committee
The WIFV Communications Committee is responsible for WIFV’s brand and messaging. It oversees the writing, editing and management of the newsletter, web site and promotional materials. It assists the other committees with their writing and promotional needs and offers assistance in the public relations arena.

WIFTI/INTERNATIONAL Committee
This is the committee that keeps WIFV informed about international happenings and what WIFTI is doing. It provides programming about working in other parts of the world and co-hosts screenings with the embassies in our area. In the fall of 2005, WIFV helped WIF-LA with resources and connections when they hosted the WIFTI Summit. This committee needs people who aren’t afraid to go global.

Women of Vision Awards Gala Committee
The Women of Vision Annual Awards Gala pays tribute to the outstanding achievements of women in film, video, and related disciplines. The Gala is the largest fundraising event of the year and this Committee is responsible for an enormous amount of work. The Gala Committee invites the selected honorees, creates the invitations and program books, finds advertisers, produces the live event, organizes the silent auction, creates the video tributes and handles the fundraising. All details and logistics regarding the Gala are the responsibilities of this Committee.

Image Makers
The Image Makers team is committed to the next generation of filmmakers. They give up their Saturdays (10 in all) to teach high school students about filmmaking. During the course of the program, the students learn to storyboard, write, shoot, edit and produce a PSA for a local charitable organization.

To sign up for a committee, contact the WIFV Office or call 202-429-9438.
