The Annual Women of Vision Awards honors women whose accomplishments have enriched both the profession and society with intelligence, talent and vision. Through their remarkable work, the award recipients have blazed trails for women in media. Proceeds from Women of Vision events help WIFV produce continuing education programs, workshops, and seminars for its members and the industry at large.
Women in Film & Video of Washington, DC (WIFV) will present its annual Women of Vision Awards on Wednesday, October 13, at the AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center, in true “Old Hollywood” style. Maureen Bunyan will serve as the evening's emcee. This year’s ceremony focuses on three local women with national reputations who exemplify the depth and range of talent of the regional market. WIFV President, Hilarey Kirsner believes, “this year’s honorees are truly representative of the talent of Washington media makers and influencers.” Purchase your tickets with this form by October 8, 2010.
Honoree Patricia Aufderheide is the director of the Center of Social Media, School of Communication, American University. Professor Aufderheide’s work is exemplary for linking the highest quality of academic research in communication with effective change in creative practice, resulting in an expansion of freedom of expression. Her recent work has culminated in a series of reports on the copyright doctrine of fair use and freedom of expression.
Grace Guggenheim has been producing films for more than twenty years. As a producer for Guggenheim Productions, she oversaw the production for the films Berga: Soldiers of Another War, A Place in the Land, The Johnstown Flood, and Harry S. Truman: 1884-1972, among others. Many of her films are in museums and libraries across the US. Several of their films received Academy Award® nominations. Ms. Guggenheim is managing the preservation of Charles Guggenheim’s legacy at The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences / Academy Film Archive in Los Angeles and The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library in Boston and advises the programming committee for The Charles Guggenheim Center for Documentary Film located at the National Archives.
Post-Production Executive Connie Day McClinton is responsible for working with clients to bring their stories to screens, making DC a vibrant media community. As a senior account executive at Interface Media Group (IMG), Connie is skilled at knowing what a client needs and more importantly what they want. She works with clients as varied as Time-Life, CourtTV, CNBC, America’s Most Wanted, BET and Gannett to name just a few. Prior to joining IMG, Connie has been a freelance Producer, Assistant Director, Camera Operator, CG Operator, and Floor Director.
The annual Women of Vision Awards event will include a reception and awards ceremony to celebrate these women. Through their remarkable work, the award recipients have blazed trails for women in media.
