Mark Maxey, president of Rolling Pictures, presented actress Daphne Maxwell Reid (Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) with a Crystal Award at The Washington West Film Festival in Reston, Va., on October 10, 2026, following the screening of, THE CASHIER, with Reid as the lead, Glenda. As a co-founder and current board member of the festival, Maxey also introduced Andy Edmunds, the long-serving head of the Virginia Film Office who not only wrote the script but is making his directorial debut. Edmunds shared that the film was shot in 17 days using all Virginia-based crew and talent, including Ms. Reid’s husband, actor Tim Reid (WKRP in Cincinnati). The story follows Glenda, a humble cashier at a local hardware store who finds a winning lottery ticket and wants to return it to its rightful owner, but that person has died. She lets her faith be her guide on what to do while a cast of characters try to detour her with so much money at stake.
Ms. Maxwell Reid received a WIFV Women of Vision Award in 2006!
Also, attending the Washington West Film Festival were WIFV members Alyscia Cunningham and Kathleen Strouse. They were there on October 10 for the screening of SEEING WITHOUT SIGHT, a documentary written/directed by Cunningham and edited by Strouse. The film follows the inspiring journeys of girls and women with vision loss, challenging societal norms of beauty and inviting viewers to embrace a deeper understanding of what it truly means to see.
