If you don't have a script ready to share, you're welcome to attend and support your fellow writers with feedback. Calling all screenwriters! Join us via Zoom Sep. 2 Calling all screenwriters! Join us via Zoom Sep. 28 at 6:30 p.m. for our Screenwriters Roundtable: First Five Page Readings. Our Screenwriters Roundtables provide a safe place for new and established writers to have their work read and critiqued. We also features special guest speakers when available. The week before each meeting, we put out a call for submissions of your scripts' first five pages, selecting the first several submissions for a table read. Roundtable selections receive readings by actors and constructive criticism from attendees. If you'd like your script to be considered for our next roundtable, email director@wifv.org to be added to our listserv! Attendance is free for WIFV members and $15 for the public. Halfway Crooks Entertainment (@halfwaycrooksent) a Halfway Crooks Entertainment (@halfwaycrooksent) and @roadmapwriters have partnered to discover the next great short screenplay with feature-film potential. The Proof of Concept Challenge is searching for exceptional proof-of-concept short scripts with unforgettable concepts, compelling characters, and a cinematic voice that leave the audience wanting more. One Grand Prize winner will receive $15,000 in production funding from Halfway Crooks Entertainment to produce their proof-of-concept short film! The production budget is intended to fully fund projects that can be realistically produced within that amount. As part of the judging process, Halfway Crooks Entertainment will consider each screenplay's production feasibility within the available budget. Following production, Halfway Crooks Entertainment will work with the winner to submit the completed proof-of-concept short to film festivals and use it as a calling card when presenting the project to financing partners, producers, distributors, and studio contacts in an effort to secure feature-film financing and development. While feature development is not guaranteed, the goal of the initiative is to give exceptional stories the strongest possible path toward becoming feature films. This is more than just a competition - it's an opportunity to begin a creative partnership with a production company committed to developing bold new storytellers. That means you have a "spec script" - and this workshop will help you understand the journey that script will take from your keyboard to readers to decision makers. Join us via Zoom Thursday, Sep. 24 at 6:30 p.m. to learn more about the spec script development process from Steve Douglas-Craig! Steve is a professional writer whose career began at Sony Pictures Entertainment as a Story Editor for the Worldwide Acquisitions Team, shepherding titles like Terminator: Salvation, Django Unchained, and House of Cards through the development process. He was then promoted to Senior Story Editor & Creative Executive at Screen Gems, and worked freelance as a writer for CBS' Hawaii Five-O. Attendance is $20 for WIFV members and $35 for the public. As we finish our summer series theme, "Time Is of As we finish our summer series theme, "Time Is of the Essence," where all the films take place within a 24-hour period, WIFV Film Club invites you to join us for our September movie discussion of GROUNDHOG DAY (1993) on Monday, September 21. WIFV's Documentary Roundtable kicks off its fall s WIFV's Documentary Roundtable kicks off its fall season with a story 330 years in the making. Join us Monday, September 14 for an evening of mystery and revelations. THE LAST WITCH: It's Never Too Late for Justice, is a documentary chronicling the efforts of a middle school classroom petitioning the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to right a wrong and exonerate Elizabeth Johnson Jr. - sentenced to death for the crime of Witchcraft. Johnson was the last remaining person still accused of Witchcraft from the 1692 Salem trials. With interviews of the accused's descendants and the optimistic efforts of a middle school class, we will delve into how a classroom project took on a life of its own. Joining us will be Director/Writer @annikahylmo, Co-Producer Bergitte Jorgensen, and Editor @elikarezaee. In 1979, Ginny Durrin sent a letter to a dozen wom In 1979, Ginny Durrin sent a letter to a dozen women she knew working in media inviting them to a meeting at her house. They were encouraged to invite others. Soon there were too many women attending to hold meetings in their homes and they moved to larger venues. Among the women involved in the first year were: Ginny Durrin, Judy Herbert, Sharon Ferguson, Christine Brim, Jan Hatcher, Norma Davidoff, Pat McMurray, Catherine Anderson, Lauren Versel, Michal Carr, Elise Reeder, and Polly Krieger. WIFV was incorporated as a charitable organization on September 10, 1979. Thanks to our foremothers for their foresight and to all of you who keep this organization vibrant! Celeste Caldwell won a cookbook by Pati Jinch, a recent guest on our MediaMaker Spotlight podcast. DCTV shared their studio space for the event, where we screened recent short films by WIFV members Jon Lutz, Dani Ellsworth (@directed.by.dani), Jenn Koiter (@jennkoiter), James May, and Joe Dzikiewicz (@jdzikiewicz).
