Welcome to Women in Film & Video DC! We're here to celebrate women’s creative and technical achievements in media, both in front and behind the camera

The Nepal American Film Festival kicked off on Jun The Nepal American Film Festival kicked off on June 26, 2025 with the beautifully shot film, SHAMBHALA by Nepalese director, Min Bahadur Bham at the AFI Silver Theater.  

The film follows Perma, a pregnant woman in the Himalayas who embarks on a journey to find her missing husband. WIFV member, Sandra Abrams, attended the event and spoke to some of the attendees including actor, Gurpreet Singh, and Kirtana Banskota who is a co-founder of the festival and is one of the producers of THE WORLD’S HAPPIEST MAN, showing on June 28th stars Bruce Dern and is making its US premiere at this festival. 

Actor, comedian and filmmaker Hari Bansha Acharya, one of the stars of that film, was a special guest from Nepal had the honor of lighting the ceremonial candles to start the event. The film festivals has 30 films from 14 different countries, runs through Sunday, June 29.

On Friday, June 13, THE SPIES AMONG US made its Ea On Friday, June 13, THE SPIES AMONG US made its East Coast premiere at the @dcdoxfest. Co-directed by Gabriel Silverman and WIFV member Jamie Coughlin Silverman, the story follows Peter Keup’s life after he reads the file the notorious East German secret police, known as the Stasi had on him and learns his brother was an informant on the family.

Before the screening, WIFV members gathered at Free State for a pre-show happy hour, followed by a moving Q&A with Peter himself.

REMAINING NATIVE is a coming-of-age feature documentary told through the perspective of Ku Stevens, a 17-year-old Native American runner from the Yerington Paiute Reservation in Northwest Nevada.
