Filmmakers Thaddeus Johnson and Lauren Waring Douglas took an unusual route to jumpstart their feature-length documentary, THE HISTORY OF SOL LEGARE ISLAND: A Landscape and Legacy – They created a short for ReelSouth. SAVING GULLAH LAND is a 6-minute look into the Wilder family as they gather in South Carolina’s Lowcountry to reflect on Taylor Island, their Civil War–era heirs’ property. Sharing stories and hopes, they face cultural and legal challenges while envisioning opportunities for future generations. You can watch the short here.
Donations for the documentary can be made here. Women in Film & Video is honored to be the project’s fiscal sponsor.
